Craig Primack MD Presents Medical Minutes
Hi, I'm Dr. Craig Primack from Scottsdale Weight Loss Center, and these are my medical minutes. It's now been a year since I've been doing medical minutes on a regular basis. I'm not sure if that makes it our one year anniversary, or our one-year birthday, but that being said, I am really happy that you all have been here. Sincerely, I am grateful that you've been a part of these medical minutes over the last year.
Happy Birthday Craig Primack or Happy Anniversary
I have a lot of fun making the medical minutes. Sometimes…
Weight Loss- Treat or Refer
Hi. I'm Dr. Craig Primack, and welcome to another medical minute. Today is a very important medical minute. It's my 20th medical minute.
Today I'm going to talk about weight loss with the philosophy of treat or refer.
Medical Disease
So what does that mean? First, let's talk about weight. Weight is considered a medical disease, or weight loss being treated by a medical professional. Most people, unfortunately, cannot treat their weight by themselves. They've tried. I understand it. Some people have tried many, many, many times, and have been unsuccessful.
Unfortunately, being a medical disease, being overweight…
Hi, I'm Dr. Craig Primack, and I'm bringing you this week's Medical Minute.
Contrave
To continue the conversation about weight loss, drugs, what we also call anti-obesity medications, that us physicians abbreviate as AOMs. This week we're going to talk about Contrave. Contrave has been on the market since 2015 and is that a unique combination of two different drugs.
Inside of it is Bupropion, Some of us also know it as Wellbutrin. It is a antidepressant that does help in of course anti-depression, but it also helps a little bit in weight. It's was combined with a medicine called naltrexone, which…
Hi, and welcome to another Medical Minute.Today, I'm going to do another recipe like I did last week.
Last week's recipe was OPTIFAST-based protein ice cream. I got a lot of great comments about the ice cream, except the fact that it's very sweet. A lot of people like sweet and healthy, but a lot of people also like savory.
So today's recipe is healthy protein-based chicken soup with broccoli, which is the way I love it.
All you need is a chicken soup packet, broccoli, and water.
Let me show you how to make it:
Here I am cutting the broccoli into bite-sized…
Welcome to another Medical Minute.
Today I have a very simple, or maybe not so simple, question and it's,
Should I take a weight loss medication?
What we also call an anti-obesity medication.
And I think there's two criteria that first have to be met to consider taking any weight loss medication.
The first is, that you've struggled in the past, either losing weight or keeping weight off. And the second is by the FDA is, do you have certain criteria? And the first criteria is that your body mass index is 30 or greater.
And the second, if you're not over 30, is that…
Welcome to Another Medical Minute.
Today's topic is about all or none dieting
Unfortunately, all or none dieting, it's very, very common in the patients that I see in my clinic.
To describe what all or none dieting is, if you are all on the dieting side, it's you begin a new plan, you say, "I'm going to do it right this time. I'm not going to eat this food and that food", and you set up very strict rules about staying on course for your diet.
Unfortunately, occasionally, for one reason or another, we do break those rules. We eat the food…
Hi and welcome to Medical Minutes .
Today's topic is about how to talk about weight loss. In this there are two different pieces. The first is how do you talk to a friend or a loved one about their weight? And the first question to ask is quite simple.
The first question:
is, "Are you concerned about your weight?"
And obviously there's a yes and a no answer. If the answer is, "Yes, I am concerned about my weight," you may ask, "What have you tried in the past?" And they'll go through some diets or potentially that they haven't done any…

Coronavirus Covid- 19
Welcome to Medical Minutes, I am Dr Craig Primack. Today is the beginning
of July 2020, this information is accurate as to what we know today. It may
change tomorrow or time may pass and we solidify some of these ideas or
completely dispute some or all of them. This medical minutes has been in
“working mode” for at least a month. I finally sat down the end of last week to
compile all my thoughts and expect todays medical minutes to be a bit longer
than usual. Let me know what you think…
We are in the midst of the worst infectious pandemic…
Today, I'm going to talk about the five best sleep tips. These are the five most important sleep tips that I have come up with over the years.
Number one, maintain a consistent sleep schedule even on the weekends. If given the choice or chance, your body will push to go later, especially on the weekends.
Number two, take time to wind down before bed. Take 30 to 60 minutes in wind down time each night before you go to bed. Divide that time, if it's 30 minutes, into 10 minute sections. If it is 60 minutes, into 20 minute sections. The…
Sleep for Weight Loss
Welcome to a Medical Minute. Why is sleep so important for weight loss? That's a great question. Sleep is an important part of weight loss for many reasons. The two biggest reasons that I talk about are number one, when you aren't sleeping well, and we'll call it restorative sleep, when you aren't getting enough restorative sleep, your metabolism is slower and you're more hungry.
Medical Studies on Sleep
And so what are the three studies that I always tell people about? Number one in this study, if you slept more than seven hours, you weighed less.…
